The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a perfect representation of what is wrong with the music industry. They’re only in it for the money, and use the artists for their own gain.
But, I have a hard time getting upset over the Dave Clark Five making it, because inducting John Cougar Melloncamp is the real crime (this time around).
The bands that aren’t in the HOF but should be, could fill a whole new HOF. And I can think of more than a few in it that shouldn’t ever have been named to a “Rock & Roll” HOF at all.
In addition to bands like the Stooges (or Iggy), how can all of the following not be inducted (and this is just the beginning of a long list) :
Jeff Beck (okay, the Yardbirds are in, but if we’re talking about influences or artists that completely changed the music landscape…)
John Mayall
Dave Edmunds
Donovan
Dick Dale (at least The Ventures have finally made it)
And NOT ONE representative of Progressive Rock:
YES
King Crimson
Moody Blues
ELP
Jethro Tull
Rush
Genesis (no Peter Gabriel either)
Also still missing:
Chicago
Blood, Sweat and Tears
Grand Funk Railroad
Todd Rundgren
Blue Oyster Cult
UFO
Doobie Brothers
Heart
Boston
Kiss
And if you’re going to add The Bee Gees to a “Rock & Roll” HOF, how can you not have:
B-52s
Cars
New York Dolls
